Bodega Bay Population

Traditionally, Bodega Bay has been a community of fishing and ranching families, with a sizable second home population. While this is still true, Bodega Bay's population has grown and changed over the years, particularly in the last decade. In recent years a number of retirees have chosen it , but increasingly, families with children are discovering it too. Working people include those connected to the tourist or fishing industries in town, commuters to Sonoma and Marin County urban areas, as well as telecommuters who have traded the daily commute for an ocean view.

The main source of new housing and population in the past two decades has been Bodega Harbour, a planned community begun in 1971. With 725 parcels, the development more than doubled the total number of potential residences in the Bodega Bay area. The 1980s were particularly booming with new construction in the Harbour. In 1979, the Sonoma County Coastal Plan shows that 152 homes had been built in Bodega Harbour. As of mid 1998, Bodega Harbour was approaching build out with over 600 homes built.
