Sonoma Coast State
Beach
Like most north coast beaches, Sonoma
Coast is NOT FOR SWIMMING. Strong rip
currents, heavy surf and sudden ground
swells make even surf play dangerous. A
small staff of well-trained lifeguards are
usually on duty during the peak season, but
with so much coastline to cover they may not
be available. Please be aware that
most cellular phone service along the coast
is spotty.
It is especially important to keep children
back from the highest water-line and never
turn your back to the ocean. Many rescues
are made each year. Also be careful of the
bluffs and rocks. The shale formations are
unstable and unsafe for climbing, so stay on
the trails and heed warning signs.
California State park lifeguards are
open-water lifesaving professionals and
trained peace officers with statewide
authority. They help operate and manage
state park units including coastal beaches,
inland lakes, reservoirs, and rivers. |

California Department
of Forestry & Fire Protection
CDF Arson
Hotline 1-800-468-4408
The men and
women of the California Department of
Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF) are
dedicated to the fire protection and
stewardship of over 31 million acres of
California's privately-owned wildlands.
The Department's firefighters, fire engines,
and aircraft respond to an average 6,135
wildland fires each year. Those fires burn
an average of nearly 194,000 acres annually.
Beyond its wildland fire fighting role, CDF
answers the call more than 300,000 times for
other emergencies each year. It may very
well be a CDF engine and crew that is
dispatched to the scene of an auto accident,
or to a home where a child has become the
victim of a drowning incident. The
Department responds to medical aids of all
types, hazardous material spills, swiftwater
rescues, search and rescue missions, civil
disturbances - the list is endless. |
