The town of Bodega Bay extending from Bodega Harbour on the South up to but not including Salmon Creek on the North is served by a public utility district. A modern sewage treatment facility was built in 1971 in conjunction with the development of Bodega Harbour. In the near future, the facility will be upgraded to tertiary level of treatment. The utility district has adequate water and sewer systems to accommodate projected build out within its boundaries, including the remaining 120 lots at Bodega Harbour, the planned 84 residence development in town, a motel site at Eastshore Road and the few remaining infill lots.

The communities north of Bodega Bay, including Salmon Creek, Carmet, Sereno del Mar, Gleason Beach and West Beach (Cliff Avenue) are served by private water companies or individual wells. All are on septic systems. Water supplies in these communities are inadequate or just adequate for existing development. For this reason, it is extremely difficult to obtain approval for new construction in these areas.
